Vocal Research Project – Participant Agreement

1. Introduction

Thank you for considering participation in the Singyy Vocal Research Project. This initiative helps improve Singyy’s pitch detection technology by analyzing real singing data from users like you. Participation is completely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time.

Before you opt in, please carefully read the following agreement to understand how your voice recordings will be used, stored, and anonymized.

 

2. Who Can Participate?

To opt into this project, you must:
✅ Be of legal age to consent to data processing in your country. If you are unsure, please check your local laws before opting in. (For reference: typically 16+ in the EU, 13+ in the US, but this may vary.)
✅ Agree to the terms below regarding voice data collection and anonymization.

For Parents and Guardians

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has entered this agreement without proper consent, please contact us immediately at [email protected]. Upon receiving a verified request, we will delete all linked recordings within 30 days. However, previously anonymized data (under 1 second) cannot be removed, as it is stored without user identifiers.

 

3. What Data Will Be Collected?

By opting in, you agree that:

  • Singyy may request permission per recording to upload up to 10 seconds of audio data per performance to its secure servers in Google Cloud (europe-west1, Belgium).
  • These recordings will be transmitted in MP3 format over a secure HTTPS connection.
  • Your original recordings will remain linked to your account for 1 month, after which they are permanently deleted.
  • Before deletion, Singyy extracts short, decontextualized clips (under 1 second) that will be used to train pitch detection models.
  • Once anonymized, these short clips are stored without any user identifiers and cannot be retrieved based on user identity.

 

4. Anonymization, Data Security, and Protection

  • Singyy does not process biometric data for identification purposes.
  • The anonymization process involves removing identifiable context, such as full phrases or background sounds.
  • Once anonymized, Singyy Ltd does not have the technological capability to link the extracted short clips back to a specific user.
  • However, you acknowledge that advanced voice analysis technologies outside of Singyy’s control may exist that could infer identity from voice patterns.
  • The dataset is only used for improving pitch detection and will never be used for tracking, profiling, or authentication.
  • Data Security:
  • Data is transferred using HTTPS (TLS 1.2+), the industry standard encryption for secure online communication.
  • Access is restricted to authorized personnel with role-based access controls.
  • Google Cloud acts as our data processor, and Singyy Ltd has signed a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Google to ensure GDPR compliance.

 

5. Your Rights Under GDPR

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU 2016/679), you have the following rights:

✅ Right to Access – Request a copy of your stored data.
✅ Right to Rectification – Correct inaccuracies in your data.
✅ Right to Erasure ("Right to be Forgotten") – Request deletion of your linked 10-second recordings before they are anonymized.
✅ Right to Withdraw Consent – Opt out at any time via Vocal Research Participation settings in the Singyy app.
✅ Right to Lodge a Complaint – File a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority (DPA) if you believe your data is misused.

Limitations on Data Removal

  • If you opt out, any stored longer-duration samples (linked to your account) will be deleted immediately.
  • However, previously anonymized dataset samples (under 1 second) cannot be removed, as they are stored without any user identifiers, and Singyy does not have the capability to associate them with any user.
  • By agreeing to this contract, you acknowledge that while Singyy applies decontextualization techniques, perfect anonymization may not be guaranteed in all cases.

 

6. How to Withdraw from the Research Project

You may opt out at any time through the Vocal Research Participation settings in the Singyy app. This will:

  • Prevent any further recordings from being uploaded.
  • Delete any linked voice samples that are still in retention.
  • Not remove previously anonymized samples, as they can no longer be linked to any individual by Singyy Ltd.

7. Acceptance of Terms

By opting in, you acknowledge and agree that:

  1. You voluntarily consent to Singyy processing your voice recordings as described.
  2. You confirm that you are of legal age to provide consent in your jurisdiction.
  3. You understand that anonymized dataset samples cannot be removed, as they are stored without user identifiers, and Singyy has no technological means to link them back to you.
  4. You acknowledge that while Singyy applies decontextualization techniques, perfect anonymization may not be guaranteed under all possible circumstances.
  5. You can opt out at any time, at which point no further recordings will be processed.
